For snowboardint ricks, a jib involves anything you would do while your board slides over
something that's not snow e.g. a rail. For beginners, start with
jibs on rails or straight boxes you can ride onto before
moving on to more difficult rails.
50-50 This involves sliding straight over the rail with your board parallel
and centered over it. Bend your knees and stay balanced.
This is not a difficult maneuver to perform so you should be able to do
this easily. Start with small rails and move your up to the bigger rails.
Boardslide This involves sliding over the rail with your board perpendicular to it.
Center your board over the rail and bend your knees while the rail
goes straight between your bindings.
You can start by going 50-50 on the rail followed by turning your shoulders
so that it becomes a boardslide. When this gets boring you can then
try to perform a 90 degree ollie onto the rails.
There are two types of boardslides. A backside boardslide is when your face
is facing down the rail and you can see where you're going while a
frontside boardside is where your back is facing down the rail which
obviously makes it a little more difficult.
Frontside 180 to 50-50 Before trying this, you'll need to be proficient in riding fakie,
doing frontside 180 spins and regular 50-50s.
To start with, make sure that you have done the rail before otherwise
scope it out by examining the jump, rail and landing. Approach the
jump leading to the rail with a moderate speed. Too slow and you're likely
to fall off as it's easier to keep your balance at a faster speed.
Ollie off the jump and spin your legs frontside. It's important to ollie
first as you'll probably miss the rail without doing so. On the rail,
ride straight through the rail while maintaining your balance.
As you approach the end of the rail, prepare to land. It may take some
practice to perfect landing fakie. Or you could just do another 180
off the rail to land regular.
270 to Frontside Boardslide Ride to the jump with moderate speed. As you approach the jump, move onto
your toe edge. While on the jump, go over to your heel edge and at the
lip, pop your heels.
Practice your 270s until you can get them just ride so that you will
be frontsiding the rails. While on the rails, look over your shoulder
to see where the end of the rail is.
At the end of the rail, turn 90 degrees to land either fakie or regular
or you could just do another 270.
Keep Practicing As with other snowboard tricks, practice these maneuvers until they become
second nature to you. Make sure you can visualize yourself doing these tricks
and learn by watching how others are doing them.
